Updated UI feedback

While I appreciate the changes in colours may seem ‘cleaner’ to some, I’ve found it harder to use the platform due to a lack of clear contrast, particularly for different sections of the site/interface such as the project/worksite/TMP info at the top and then boxes for layouts and the top navigation bar The site used to have darker tones for some of these, with a blue/white contrast in most places, but the lack of this blue means the screen is overwhelmingly white/bright. A lot of sites now have a dark mode, which I personally use on most as the contrast helps me process information on the screen and reduces fatigue on my eyes when looking at the screens all day I’m aware it’s only been out two days, but I’m already finding my eyes squinting or trying to open more to take in the much more subtle transitions between sections of the site Below is a comparison of the majority of the page displays when using the platform, with the help section which has the darker blue banner at the top. Is it possible to develop a dark mode with much darker grey and or more use of contrasting colours?

Multi-part polygons for worksites

Currently, when creating a worksite, the format is drawing a polygon to cover worksite extents. While this is accurate in showing area for most works, there are occasions where a worksite is covering a ‘package’ of works where the same works are occurring but in several distinct locations. Currently, one would either create a polygon in area A and then start one in area B, however this means there are ‘phantom’ lines across the planning map linking different locations, which then include the clash mitigation etc When entering a traffic management impact, multiple sections of road network can be selected without causing a similar issue, but this option isn’t available at the worksite stage The only alternative would be to create multiple worksites, however this will then cause the issue of multiple charges and administration, and/or worksites which aren’t directly attached to the TMP for their works I’m not sure how the worksite extent is coded, but could the option be added to stop drawing a polygon and then start a new one?

Public Impacts Map Improvements

Search function – The Public Impacts Map should allow users to search by street/road name, rather than having to zoom in and locate worksites manually. Public-friendly information – The details displayed when clicking on a worksite need to be easier for the public to understand. If this map is intended for public use, it needs to be easier to understand a public relevant. I suggest adding prompts when worksite information is entered, so the descriptions presented are more user-friendly, and the contractor knows it will be viewed publicly. Who is doing the work – The map should show both the contractor and the organisation they are working for (e.g., “Fulton Hogan on behalf of Timaru District Council” or “Menzies on behalf of Alpine Energy”). This would help the community understand that not all roadworks are Council-led—many are carried out by service providers

Enhancement: Scheduling of Road Space bookings with Real-time Deployments

We are looking to collaborate with the sector around improving the tools for the scheduling of work including real-time deployment of work. How can we can best communicate the activation of roadworks with various stakeholders? Here is what our research has uncovered so far: The public wants to know: When roadworks will be completed (and why they are being done) Whether there are going to be roadworks on their journey today/tomorrow Road controlling authorities want to know: What work is scheduled on the network so that they can help plan and mitigate imminent impacts to transport users. (usually through Advertising, Signals Changes, Public Transport Operations or deferring work) What work is currently on the network so they can manage real-time operations What work was done on the network so they can provide auditing (quality control) for the work Other stakeholders: (emergency services, heavy haulage etc) Want to know if work may impact specific parts of the network that relate to them Roading Contractors want: Flexibility around the timing of their work to better handle their dynamic operational needs. Easy ways to schedule and communicate the deployment of work Simple to use tools that work well while out on the road and in the office Ability for sub contractors to optionally handle scheduling and deployment of work A channel for communicating with the road uses so that they can mitigate risks on their worksites.
